One Hundred Years On: Strengths and Strains in the Constitution

Sir Gerard Brennan, former Chief Justice of the High Court of Australia, proposes the amendment of some provisions in the Constitution that have failed in their purpose, the deletion of obsolete provisions and additions to federal power to cope with changes in science and technology. He suggests some implications of a move to a Republic for the system of responsible government.
