2007 Harvey T. Strosberg Essay Prize Winner Announced

Harvey T. Strosberg, Q.C. and Irwin Law Inc. are very pleased to announce that this year's winner of the Harvey T. Strosberg Essay Prize for the best student essay on class actions in Canada is Michael P. A. Carabash.

Michael Carabash is a 2007 LL.B./M.B.A. candidate at Osgoode Hall Law School/Schulich School of Business. His paper, "Shareholder Class Actions in Ontario: Putting John C. Coffee Jr.’s Findings to the Test" will appear in Volume 4, Issue 2, of the Canadian Class Action Review. Mr. Carabash will also receive a prize of $10,000.

Harvey T. Strosberg, Q.C., Editor-in-Chief of the Canadian Class Action Review, and Irwin Law Inc. are pleased to announce the fourth annual Harvey T. Strosberg Essay Prize competition. The prize of $10,000 is awarded to an outstanding student paper on Canadian class actions.

The competition is open to all Canadian students enrolled in an undergraduate, graduate, or professional program. The deadline for submissions is March 1, 2007.

2006 Harvey T. Strosberg Essay Prize Winner Announced

Harvey T. Strosberg, Q.C. and Irwin Law Inc. are very pleased to announce that this year's winner of the Harvey T. Strosberg Essay Prize for the best student essay on Class Actions in Canada is Chris Dafoe.

Chris Dafoe, a graduate of the University of British Columbia Faculty of Law, is currently clerking at the B.C. Supreme Court. His paper, "A Path Through The Class Action Chaos: Selecting the Most Appropriate Jurisdiction with a National Class Action Panel" will appear in Volume 3, Issue 2, of the Canadian Class Action Review. Mr. Dafoe will also receive a prize of $10,000.

Harvey T. Strosberg, Q.C. and Irwin Law Inc. are very pleased to announce that the first winner of the Harvey T. Strosberg Essay Prize for the best student essay on Class Actions in Canada is David Gourlay.

David Gourlay is a third-year student in the Faculty of Law at the University of Toronto. His paper, "A Class Act Comes of Age: Costs and Certification as the OLRC Report Turns Twenty" will appear in the second issue of the Canadian Class Action Review to be published in June 2004. David will also receive a prize of $10,000.
