Richard Garnett

Professor Richard Garnett (BA, LLB, UNSW; LLM, Harv) is a Professor at the Melbourne Law School, researching and teaching in private international law and international dispute resolution. He has published books and articles in leading international journals in these fields, a number of which have been cited by leading international tribunals such as the European Court of Human Rights and US federal courts.

Professor Garnett has also acted as legal adviser and counsel in many matters before Australian and international tribunals and is currently a consultant to the law firm Freehills.

He serves on the ACICA Rules Committee, which drafted the 2005 Arbitration Rules and 2008 Expedited Arbitration Rules. Professor Garnett has also been a member of the Australian delegation to the Hague Conference on Private International Law (Convention on Choice of Court Agreements), an adviser to the American Law Institute in its project on transnational intellectual property adjudication, and co-rapporteur on the International Law Association (ILA) project on transnational group actions.
