Michael Hogan taught in the Department of Government at the University of Sydney until his retirement from teaching in 1997, and has continued as an Honorary Associate in the same institution since that time. His is the author or editor of more than a dozen books and numerous articles. His primary research interest has been in the connection between religion and politics â€“ a theme of the The Sectarian Stand, Religion in Australian History (1987).
In recent years he has been working on State, regional and local history. He has a continuing interest in the history and politics of the Labor Party, although he has never been a member of that party.
