Dr Jan Jordan is currently a Senior Lecturer in Criminology at Victoria University of Wellington, New Zealand. She has over 20 years experience teaching and researching in the area of women and crime, and has undertaken projects for various government departments over this time. Her book, The Word of a Woman? Police, Rape and Belief (Palgrave Macmillan, 2004) examined the credibility conundrum surrounding women’s experiences of reporting rape, asking: why is the word of a woman doubted when she alleges rape yet believed if she retracts the allegation?
Jan is a regular presenter to police training courses on adult sexual assault investigation. She is a member of the Advisory Committee for an Australian research project on police responses to sexual assault, and also a member of the Prostitution Law Review Committee, established to evaluate the impacts of decriminalising the sex industry in New Zealand.
