Richard Schneider and Hy Bloom receive Bruno Cormier Award

Congratulations to the Honorable Richard D. Schneider and Dr Hy Bloom, co-editors of Law and Mental Disorder: A Comprehensive and Practical Approach (2013), who have been awarded the Bruno Cormier Award by the Canadian Academy of Psychiatry and the Law for their significant contributions to forensic psychiatry in Canada. The award was presented at CAPL’s annual conference in Vancouver earlier this month.

Richard D. Schneider, BSc, MA, PhD, LLB, LLM, CPsych, is Chairman of the Ontario Review Board and a Justice of the Ontario Court of Justice. Hy Bloom, BA, LLB, MD, FRCPC, is CEO of workplace.calm, inc., a workplace conflict, problem behaviour, and violence prevention and management group of multidisciplinary consultants, and a founding member of the Psilex Group, Consultants in Behavioural Sciences and the Law. Together, they have authored/edited Mental Disorder and the Law: A Primer for Legal and Mental Health Professionals (2006), Mental Health Courts: Decriminalizing the Mentally Ill (2007, with Mark Heerema), and Law and Mental Disorder: A Comprehensive and Practical Approach (2013). Richard D. Schneider is also the author of The Annotated Ontario Mental Health Statutes 4/e (2007) and The Lunatic and the Lords (2009).
