Wendy van Tongeren Harvey

Wendy van Tongeren Harvey received her B.A. from the University of British Columbia in 1973 and her LL.B. from Queen’s Law School in 1976. She is a member of both the Ontario and the British Columbia Bars. Since 1981, Ms. van Tongeren Harvey has specialized in the prosecution of sex crimes and crimes against vulnerable persons, such as children and persons with disabilities. She has lectured throughout Canada and internationally and has been an expert witness on Canadian legislative reform before parliamentary committees. In addition, she has played a significant role in training police, Crown, and social workers across the country.

In 2006, she joined the Office of the Prosecutor at the Special Court of Sierra Leone in Freetown, Sierra Leone. She has numerous publications to her name including So, You Have to Go to Court (1986), a book written for child witnesses, and Sexual Offences Against Children and the Criminal Process (2001).
