Patrick J. Monahan
A member of Osgoode Hall Law School’s faculty since 1982, Patrick Monahan is currently professor and dean of law. He teaches courses dealing with constitutional law, Canadian federalism, and administrative law and is the author or editor of numerous books and monographs on the Canadian constitution and public policy. His academic career has been combined with activities in both private practice and public law settings. Between 1986 and 1990, he was senior policy advisor to the attorney general and premier of Ontario respectively, at which time he played a key role in the negotiation of the 1987 Meech Lake Accord. He is a frequent commentator in the national media on legal, constitutional, and political issues and has appeared as counsel in public law cases at all levels of court in Canada, including the Supreme Court of Canada.Effective July 1, 2009 Dean Monahan will become Vice-President Academic and Provost at York University.
