Ronald C.C. Cuming
Professor Cuming has taught and researched domestic and international commercial law for over 35 years including secured transactions law, sales law, leasing law, debtor-creditor law, insolvency law and bankruptcy law. He was the principal draftsperson for Alberta, British Columbia, and Saskatchewan in the preparation of Personal Property Security Acts. This legislation provided models for the secured transactions law for six other jurisdictions in Canada. Professor Cuming is a technical advisor to the World Bank and has been a consultant to the Asian Development Bank and other international agencies in the area of commercial law reform of developing countries. He prepared draft secured transactions and leasing legislation for countries in Eastern Europe, Africa, the Middle East, and Asia. He was the originator and principal consultant to the International Institute for the Unification Private Law and the Government of Canada in the development of the Convention on International Interests in Mobile Equipment, 2001 which will provide an international regime for secured financing of large aircraft.Professor Cuming served as chairperson of the Uniform Law Conference Study Committee on Reform of Secured Transactions Law. He received the University of Saskatchewan Distinguished Researcher Award in 1998. Recent publications include Personal Property Security Act handbooks for the western provinces, which he co-authored; a handbook on Albanian secured transactions law; and numerous reports, articles, and book chapters published in Canada and internationally.
