The Honourable Mr. Justice Michel Proulx and David Layton have received the Walter Owen Book Prize for their work Ethics and Canadian Criminal Law, published by Irwin Law. Daniel L. Mulligan called the book "a detailed and indispensable discussion of ethics" in his review published in Canadian Law Libraries. "Ethics and Canadian Criminal Law is well-written, wide-ranging, thought-provoking and useful. I would, without hesitation, recommend this text to any criminal lawyer." Author David Layton currently practises criminal and civil litigation in Vancouver. Hon. Mr. Justice Michel Proulx has been a member of the Court of Appeal of Quebec since 1989. The English-language Walter Owen book prize is awarded every other year by the Foundation for Legal Research to the author(s) of a book which represents an outstanding new contribution to Canadian legal literature and which enhances the quality of legal research in Canada. The winner(s) are selected by a committee of annually-appointed lawyers, judges, and academics. Other Irwin Law titles short-listed for the 2003 prize were Copyright Law by David Vaver, The Law of Equitable Remedies by Jeffrey Berryman, and Administrative Law by David Mullan.
