Undertaking
  1. A written promise given by an accused person to a peace officer (Form 11.1) or a judge or justice (Form 12) to appear in court at a stated place and time and to comply with other conditions.

  2. An assurance. It is commonly used to describe a promise made by either a party or his lawyer to the court to perform a particular task. A party seeking an interlocutory injunction will normally be required to give an undertaking to pay any damages the defendant may incur as a result of the injunction having been wrongfully obtained by the plaintiff.
