- Serious violent offence

As defined in YCJA, section 2(1), means an offence “in the commission of which a young person causes or attempts to cause serious bodily harm.” An offence is only considered to be a “serious violent offence” if at the time of sentencing a judge makes a judicial determination under section 42(9) of the YCJA that it is a “serious violent offence.”
